October to January: Building Candidate Pool

  • Implicit bias training for advisory committee
  • President Napolitano requests nominations from UC and peer university leaders
  • Advertise position
  • Solicit nominations from UC Merced community
  • Executive candidate outreach strategy
  • Additional research by search firm to identify candidates

November to February: Winnowing

  • Faculty subcommittee reviews prospective candidates
  • Full advisory committee reviews prospective candidates
  • Determination of candidate interest
  • Full advisory committee identifies semi-finalists

March to May: Selection

  • Full advisory committee interviews semi-finalists
  • Full advisory committee recommends finalists to President Napolitano
  • President Napolitano interviews finalists
  • President Napolitano and staff perform background and reference checks
  • President Napolitano recommends her choice to the UC Board of Regents
  • Regents vote on chancellor nominee
